New Business Development
The New Business Development Analyst is responsible for managing the development of new business initiatives selected by our business development committee which includes the President, SAI CEO, Johnson Fellow and the Business Development Committee of SAI’s Board of Directors. The analyst reports to the President and CEO and is expected to seek out all available resources for consultation to aide in fulfilling his or her duties. The average time commitment is 10 to 15 hours per week during off-peak seasons, and 25 to 40 hours per week during the summer peak.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Idea Generation
- Lead internal activities that generate ideas for new products, services or new businesses.
- Develop and implement channels for students across campus to submit ideas to Student Agencies
- Support our involvement with AEM to generate ideas and our participation in the Business Plan Competition.
Initial Evaluation of Ideas
- Work with Business Development Team to document criteria and filters for effectively vetting business ideas.
- Work with business idea champion to apply our evaluation criteria to new business ideas and refine for resubmission or reject accordingly.
Business Plan Development
- Develop or support the development of a Business Plan for those ideas that successfully pass our initial screening criteria.
- Develop pro-forma income statements and break even analysis
- After review and preliminary approval by the internal Business Development Team, submit business plan for formal Board level review.
Implementation
- For those business ideas approved by the Board’s Business Development Committee, either lead or support the implementation effort.
- Develop a detailed project plan for implementation with appropriate milestones, goals and metrics (approved by President and GM) and regularly report progress against the plan.
Human Resources
- Train and support new business “champions” who join Student Agencies to start a selected new business.
- Effectively delegate responsibility to assistant managers and employees as appropriate.
- Document and organize all process and procedure for future managers.
General Responsibilities
- Contribute to the overall benefit of SAI by participating in meetings, office hours, team projects, and corporate recruiting, orientation, training, and by aiding other businesses in peak times.
- Honor all deadlines and address all action plans delegated by the President and CEO of SAI, and report to them accordingly.
- Ensure a smooth transition for the business successor by maintaining accurate and detailed records of business transactions as well as the issues relating to and resolution of any problems that occurred during the manager’s tenure.
- Update the training manual to ensure its relevance for the incoming manager.
- Foster long-term business growth and development.
